Instructing an Expert Witness

EXPERT WITNESS PSYCHOLOGISTS

Practitioner psychologists have the professional training and clinical skills to help people learn to cope more effectively with life issues and mental health problems.   An expert is a person who, through special training, study or experience, is able to furnish the Court, tribunal or oral hearing with scientific or technical information which is likely to be outside the experience and knowledge of a judge, magistrate, convenor or jury. The expert’s role is to assist the Court and not the party(ies) instructing them.

Psychologists are usually registered as:

HCPC and BPS
  • Clinical psychologists – work with people on their problems/illnesses
  • Counselling psychologists – employ therapy solutions though counselling
  • Educational psychologists – concerned with education and learning
  • Forensic psychologists – study crime and work with offenders
  • Neuropsychologists – concerned with the functions of the brain

All of our psychologists are subject to our quality standards: a rigorous recruitment process, registration with their professional bodies, and criminal record checks.  Most importantly, they continue to maintain professional development in their field.
